Canadian Payroll

Electronic Filing of T4’s

CRA has mandated that starting with the reporting of 2009 T4’s if you have over 50 T4’s they must be filed electronically.  The ability to do this in Jonas already exists.  When in the T4 screen, under the “Form” dropdown choose “Magnetic Media/Internet File(XML Format)” and click on OK.  You will be brought to another additional screen where you will need to fill in all the fields.  Please refer to Knowledge Base Article 4033 for more details on this process.

For the first time ever, the October edition of the Insider included a Stump the Staff entry. We asked you, our clients, to submit questions you would like answered in upcoming editions of the Insider.  We will publish the best questions on any Jonas topic, complete with the answers from your Jonas Support staff.   Your name will be entered in a draw quarterly to win valuable Jonas prizes!  You can enter as many times as you like.  Send your entries to Evelyn Garnet

Module: Payroll

I have to pay a monthly taxable vehicle allowance and I was wondering how to set this up in the payroll so that it will be automatically done by Jonas on the first payroll of each month.

Staff:

First, ensure that you have a monthly payroll profile setup as follows.

Go to the employee profile, click on  “Taxes” and enter the auto allowance amount under “Tax Benefit Auto”.  The system will process this benefit in each pay period (monthly).

Process payroll as you normally would, run calculate deductions and taxes as usual, and print the pay journal. You will see the taxable benefit automatically calculated by the system. See the example below.

Thanks this month go to Eric Pritchett of Pennecon Limited, St. John’s, NL, Canada.

Let us introduce you to Farzana Jamal,
Customer Support Representative.

Farzana joined the Jonas Support Team in September 2009, bringing with her an extensive client sales and service background.  She says that helping resolve client issues makes her happy, but exceeding clients’ expectations are what drives her.

Farzana comes with an impressive academic background starting with an Accounting and Finance Advanced Diploma from Seneca College where she also graduated with her 3rd level C.G.A. designation equivalency.  After completing her diploma, she and a friend started and operated a successful business venture and her new-found entrepreneurial spirit inspired her to go back to school where she received her Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Strategy from The Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University.  As a strong believer in life-long learning, she hopes to complete her MBA someday.

Farzana tells us that one of her proudest achievements was being featured as a student success story in a student text entitled, “Power Learning”, used in post-secondary institutions Canada-wide in 2008.

Farzana says that her large family is the most important aspect of her life. Apart from her older brother, she has 16 first cousins.  In her spare time, she likes to hang out with family and friends and watch movies but confesses she’s a video game junkie.

Q. Can I print Customer labels in Jonas?

A. Yes.

There are a number of options to choose from when printing customer labels. Accounts Receivable > Files > Print Customer Labels.

Depending on which one you select, the labels will be a certain size and display certain information.  The size of the label stock is displayed beside each option.  If their label is not in the list, it won’t print properly however Jonas offers standard Avery labels with the stock number.

QHow do I Include Payroll cheques in the A/P QUIK Bank Reconciliation?

A. To include payroll cheques in your bank reconciliation, open the Options screen in QUIK Bank Reconciliation and select Include P/R and D/D.  See the F1 note below.
